Nimbus didn’t start from a blank sheet with the W9. Chief Designer Joacim Gustavsson and his team pulled together the best-loved features from across the range, refined them, and built in new functionality to make life easier for everyone on board.

Spend time on the W9 and you’ll spot the lineage straight away. The interior layout borrows from the 26 Epoca and 32 Ballista. The broad foredeck, brilliant for boarding and moving around safely, comes from the Max II. The side window design nods to the 22 Spectra, while the window frame with its integrated canopy cover is a direct descendant of the 305 Drophead. Under the waterline, you’ll find the air-lubricated stepped hull that Nimbus first introduced on the R-series back in 2000.

The W9’s hull runs long, with a sharp bow section and a flatter profile towards the stern. Nimbus’s engineers kept the centre of gravity low and worked hard on the length-to-width ratio, so the boat sits well in a range of sea states rather than fighting them. Technical Director Mats Jacobsson puts the focus on the 20-35 knot range in particular, where the aim was a boat that feels secure and settled rather than twitchy. Early test drives back that up: good balance and a well-judged flare keep the boat dry, with spray kept well away from the cockpit. Fast doesn’t have to mean uncomfortable.

Commercial Director Jonas Göthberg sums up the thinking behind the platform: one hull, built to flex across very different uses. That might mean covering serious distances year-round off the coast of Norway, or short, sharp days out in the Mediterranean sun. The W9 is engineered to do both convincingly.

Systems & Comfort

The W9 carries Nimbus’s award-winning Sidewalk design, giving generous, unobstructed space to move safely around the boat and foredeck. Clear walkways front to back mean confidence in port and reassurance underway.

The bow itself is new, drawn out along the waterline to improve the boat’s cruising manners. That angle also makes room for an integrated front anchor winch and helps reduce the risk of damage when coming alongside rocks or a tricky pontoon.

In the cockpit, a large windscreen shelters everyone on board, while the layout and furniture have been designed with entertaining firmly in mind. What really sets the W9 apart is how easily it switches gears: from a sit-down meal to sunbathing to swimming, with none of the usual faff. On plenty of boats, changing activity means lifting, unscrewing, and rearranging half the boat. On the W9, it takes a few simple moves.

A wide swim platform at the stern makes getting in and out of the water simple, whether that’s after a swim or when it’s time to load the crew back on board. At the helm, sightlines are excellent in every direction, and the dashboard is laid out cleanly around the plotter so nothing feels cluttered underway.
