JEANNEAU UK DEALER OF THE YEAR 2020, 2022 & 2024. HIGHFIELD DEALER OF THE YEAR 2024.
The Nimbus 495 Coupé is an owner-operated cruiser built for people who intend to actually live aboard, not just visit at weekends. It’s the newest chapter in a line that goes back to 1968 – the 320 Coupé, 305 Coupé, 365 Coupé, 405 Coupé – enclosed cruisers that have shaped how Scandinavian boaters use the water: sheltered when the weather says so, open when it doesn’t.
When the 495 platform was being developed, the Coupé concept came first in the thinking, even though the Flybridge reached market ahead of it. In many ways, the 495 Coupé is the more natural expression of the platform – built on the same proven hull as the 495 Flybridge, but brought back to what’s defined Nimbus for over fifty years: enclosed, purposeful boats for real coastal conditions.

What the Coupé gains by losing the flybridge
Taking the flybridge away doesn’t just change the silhouette – it hands that space and structure back to the parts of the boat an extended cruiser actually depends on.
More light in the saloon. Without the flybridge overhead, the Coupé carries a considerably larger glass sunroof than its sibling, and light has always been a defining trait of the Nimbus Coupé line. The 495 takes that further than any Coupé before it.
Shade without shutting the boat down. Big skylights are a mixed blessing in the Mediterranean or just on bright days out – glorious light, but also glare and heat to manage. The 495 Coupé answers that with an electric awning mounted above the roof glass. One button deploys the canopy to shade the saloon while the skylights stay open for airflow, so the boat stays enclosed without ever feeling stuffy.
A galley built to work in. On the Flybridge, the port side of the galley gives up space to the staircase. On the Coupé, that space goes back to the kitchen – meaningfully more counter room, space for two people to cook together, and storage the Flybridge simply doesn’t have.
A mahogany interior option. For owners who prefer a warmer, more traditional cabin, the 495 Coupé will be offered with a mahogany interior, paired with a new oak sole and matching upholstery – a nod to the classic Scandinavian cruising feel of earlier Nimbus Coupés.
Somewhere for the wet gear. Where the Flybridge staircase would have stood, the Coupé fits an aft deck wardrobe – a proper home for wet jackets, boots and foul-weather kit, kept well away from the cabins and living spaces.
More self-sufficiency at anchor. With no flybridge taking up roof space, the 495 Coupé has room for extra solar panels. It won’t run the air conditioning on its own, but it buys real time at anchor before the generator needs to come on.
Dry storage where the mast folds down. The recessed housing for the foldable mast doubles as storage for a life raft, SUP, tender or anything else better kept away from the living spaces on account of damp or smell.

With its electrically foldable mast, the 495 Coupé holds an air draft under 3.5 metres, which opens up Europe’s canal systems, river networks and the locks that link them. It’s also what makes the boat a realistic choice for the Great Loop in North America – the inland-waterway circumnavigation of the eastern United States.
A shortened bathing platform will also be available, bringing the boat under 14 metres overall – useful for marina berth availability and registration in some jurisdictions.
Early feedback from 495 Flybridge owners backs up the thinking behind the Coupé’s systems. The joystick docking, assisted manoeuvring and Dynamic Positioning System let owners handle the boat confidently without crew, and the wide starboard side deck with tall guardrails makes moving around underway feel genuinely safe rather than just adequately safe.
What owners are already saying
The 495 Flybridge has been out with owners long enough now to generate real feedback, and most of it holds just as true for the Coupé, given the shared platform.
One owner who stepped up from a 30-foot boat brought an instructor aboard before taking delivery. Within a few months he was running the boat with total confidence: it’s easier to manoeuvre, he said, than plenty of 10-metre boats, because the systems take the stress out of it.
What comes up again and again is a sense of connection throughout the boat – the curved aft glass, the wide side door, the way the helm, galley and saloon all sit within sight and earshot of each other. Around three-quarters of 495 Flybridge buyers so far have been families with children, which is a shift from the usual buyer profile at this size. These are often owners who could buy bigger, but who’d rather have privacy, self-sufficiency and the experience of running their own boat.
Systems & Comfort
Underneath the layout differences, the 495 Coupé shares its Flybridge sibling’s engineering in full. The hull is vacuum-infused with a Divinycell core for an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, and four structural bulkheads – vacuum-infused with the same core – give the hull torsional rigidity, a quiet ride in a seaway, and none of the flex-driven creaks that turn up in lesser-built boats over time.

FAQs
Under 3.5 metres with the mast folded down, which makes it suitable for European canal and river systems, and for the Great Loop in North America.
It shares the same hull and core engineering, but replaces the flybridge with a larger glass sunroof, a bigger galley, an aft deck wardrobe, extra solar capacity and dedicated roof storage. It’s built as the more enclosed, extended-cruising version of the platform.
Three as standard – owner’s cabin aft, VIP cabin forward, and a guest/utility cabin to starboard – with an optional third-cabin configuration as a bunk room or office.
