Nimbus 495 Flybridge Boat Overview
The Nimbus 495 Flybridge is a boat built around one idea: your own free zone, with the comfort and self-sufficiency to properly disappear for a while, whether that’s your home coastline or somewhere further afield.
A boat is a small world of its own – people and stories moving from one harbour to the next, with the sea both connecting places and quietly separating you from everything on land. That’s the thinking behind the 495. It was conceived as a proper expedition vessel first, which is why the tank capacities aren’t an afterthought. Fuel, fresh water, grey water, black water – all sized to cover real distance and to sit comfortably at anchor for extended stretches without a generator run or a water refill dictating the itinerary.

The result is a boat that can go almost anywhere and support weeks aboard in genuine comfort, whether that’s a long-planned expedition or a slower holiday in familiar waters.
One of the better tricks of the design is that it works at both ends of the experience spectrum. Two people can handle it confidently through a demanding Nordic archipelago or around the UK, and a couple or a small crew can take it comfortably across the Mediterranean or down the US east coast on a longer voyage. It’s a boat for people who know what they want from a boat, which is also why Nimbus offers extensive customisation on the 495 – working directly with the owner to match the specification to how they actually intend to use it.

Onboard Systems & Comfort
On the 495, the saloon isn’t a stop between the helm and the cabins – it’s where you actually live. Helm, dining, the social lounge, the galley: all of it sits in the same connected space, built that way on purpose.

The large aft saloon windows do more work than they look like they should. They open the galley out into the aft deck and social area, so cooking stops being a job done in isolation and becomes part of whatever’s happening on deck. The effect is a boat that feels bigger than its length suggests, simply because nobody’s shut away from the conversation.
It’s a layout with a clear lineage back through Nimbus boats‘ earlier coupé-styles, carried forward deliberately rather than redesigned from nothing.

Dynamic Positioning System
The Dynamic Positioning System holds the boat’s heading and position automatically, which matters more than it sounds like it should. Prepping fenders and lines before docking, waiting to refuel, holding station for a bridge or lock – all of it gets easier with the boat doing the station-keeping rather than the crew.
In DPS mode, small adjustments are a tap of the joystick away, which is useful when wind or current are working against a clean approach. One button engages it, securing the boat’s position precisely; moving the throttles or pressing the button again hands control straight back.

Built the Scandinavian way
Fewer boats these days are designed around lived experience of local conditions – most are drawn to a brief, not shaped by decades on the water. Nimbus has built coupe cruisers for a long time, and the 495 is where that experience gets fully realised.
The Nordic tradition of building boats for archipelago conditions runs back thousands of years – far enough that the timber for the Oseberg ship was felled in the year 819. Boats from that era, over 1,100 years old, are considered close to fully resolved in design terms: later tank-testing of their hull lines found them to be almost optimal, which is not something arrived at by accident. The modern clinker-built boat shares that same lineage, carrying forward a hull shape refined by use rather than theory.
Boats built for an archipelago landscape, where wave patterns and currents can shift completely within a couple of nautical miles, tend to handle well everywhere else too. That’s the logic behind the 495: take what works in the Nordic coastal landscape and build a boat capable of long passages and extended time afloat, wherever the owner takes it. It’s also how the Nordic-style flybridge cruiser becomes genuinely relevant in the Mediterranean and the US, not just at home.

Who the 495 Flybridge suits
The 495 Flybridge is built for owners who want real distance and real time aboard, not just a boat for day trips. It suits people with archipelago or coastal cruising experience already behind them, who know what they want from a long voyage and value a boat built from decades of practical knowledge rather than a styling exercise.
